Shoprite’s “Partners in Caring” Book Collection Initiative Makes Big Impact

Berlin, NJ:  When you think of Shoprite Supermarkets you generally do not think of reading books…Until Now.  Owned by the Wakefern Food Corporation, the Zallie’s Shoprite in Berlin, New Jersey held a book collection this past Spring.  Hundreds of books were collected from patrons, staff, and others then it was donated to the Community Care Food and Clothing Pantry to assist in 2 special projects already in the works by other partnering organizations.

Beautiful Educated Girls Giving Back or BEGGB, under the leadership of De’Zebrra White, hosted a reading lesson in the park for kids.  This event consisted of story reading in English and Spanish, healthy snacks and juices for the kids, and of course “playtime” at the beautiful Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, NJ.

The other project is being spearheaded by the Honorable Ian Mosley (D), New Jersey Democratic State Committeeman and Lindenwold Township Democratic Chairman.  Mr. Mosely is working with Sarah Vellner, the Co-Founder of The Lindenwold Book Ark Project on a massive book collection. The objective is to energize literacy efforts and to make books more accessible for communities.  Book Arks are available for placement outside of homes or businesses and the books will be provided or Free!

We want thank the Zallie-Somerset, Inc. Shoprite Family for their efforts and contributions.  The Community Care Food and Clothing Pantry is honored to witness the outpouring of support from people in the community as well as networking multiple community outreach efforts.
